I have a boat,its a model 1.2 m long,like a yacht built 1910 what isit worth,needs restauration .?
Its a boat built traditionally like a model in hardwood , with masts various and Sails but really they are too old and taty . The structure is intact ,the deck fittings a little corroded , its not a big job to refinish the yacht .This boat was sailed on the waterworks lakes in Belfast when I believe this was a common hobby . . I had it for sale for 70quid but thinking about it maybe its too cheap for this little work of art. I dont’t want to restore it myself though .
The collectors market for something like this is very limited, but there can’t be many survivors, and the right collector will pay good money for something that’s rare.
The problem is the condition. For many antiques, original condition is demanded, and evidence of repair or restoration lowers the value, even if it makes the item look ‘prettier’. This is usually the case for antique furniture, china, and many other items. For certain others, unrestored items are basically junk as is, but correctly restored, are worth a lot of money. Examples of this are antique automobiles, Coke machines, gasoline pumps (petrol, to you, maybe), things where the original shell in good shape is very hard to find. A restored automobile from the 1920s will sell for thousands more if it has an original steel body to start from than if it uses a fiberglass shell.
On this one, I’m leaning toward the more left-alone the model is, the better. Only taking it to several knowledgeable antique dealers in your area, perhaps an auctioneer or two, will give you a proper answer on if it would be worth more restored. If it is, they’ll be able to suggest a restoration expert to you.
