how long is a land yacht/wind sailer?
So im doing this school project and i need 2 no how long and wide a land yacht/land sailer is. I need to know this by tomoz so if u can help me thank u soo much. First good answer gets 10 points!!
I actually found the answer before no one answered so yeah
There was a wagon used in the 1860′s to 1890′s that was commonly referred to as a land yacht, because it had a sail, which was intended to help move it on the high planes in the western U.S. They where about the same size as a Conestoga wagon, but usually built much lighter. They had mules or oxen to pull them, and the sail was often more trouble than useful.
I’ve seen a few in paintings. It was 18 ft. long and 4 to 5 ft wide and some where 11 ft tall.
The term land yacht became a derisive term for large vehicles like Camper Vans and station wagons.
I hope this is what you where looking for.

Afloat: A Journal of His Days at Sea $55.53 There are few great books about sailing on pleasure boats, but this is one. Afloat is the story of Maupassant’s voyage around the Mediterranean coast aboard his yacht, the Bel-Ami. It is not only the record of a voyage, but a portrait of life at sea and of French provincial life on the land. It is also a confession: Maupassant reflects on the literary life, society, women, and politics, and his intimate thoughts are accompanied by the rhythms of the sea and the wind. This edition includes previously unpublished translations of three articles by Maupassant. |

Buckeye Lake $21.99 On July 4, 1825, construction of the Ohio-Erie Canal began with the turning of the first shovel of earth in the Buckeye Lake area. Completed in 1830, it formed the Licking Summit Reservoir, which became known as Buckeye Lake. To increase weekend business on its streetcars, the Columbus, Buckeye Lake and Newark Traction Company bought land at Buckeye Lake and built an amusement park, advertising it as the Playground of Ohio. The Buckeye Lake Amusement Park and the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club on Watkins Island were very popular, and during the big band era, many visitors came to dance at the Crystal Pavilion and the Lake Breeze Pier Ballroom, which featured the sounds of Harry James, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Stan Kenton, Lawrence Welk, and Louis Armstrong. |

Flemish Scientists: Simon Stevin, Jan Baptist Van Helmont, Franciscus Mercurius Van Helmont, Paul Bouts, Jos Verhulst, Peter Carmeliet $14.02 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: Simon Stevin, Jan Baptist Van Helmont, Franciscus Mercurius Van Helmont, Paul Bouts, Jos Verhulst, Peter Carmeliet, Kris Burm, Patrick Callaerts, Karel Verleye. Excerpt: Simon Stevin (1548/49 1620) was a Flemish mathematician and engineer. He was active in a great many areas of science and engineering, both theoretical and practical. He also translated various mathematical terms into Dutch, making it one of the few European languages in which the word for mathematics, wiskunde (“the art of what is certain”), was not derived from Greek (via Latin). Stevin was born in Bruges, Flanders (now Belgium) in the year 1548, to Antheunis Stevin and Cathelyne van der Poort. Very little has been recorded about his life. Even the exact date of birth and the date and place of his death (The Hague or Leiden) are uncertain. It is known that he left a widow with two children; and one or two hints scattered throughout his works inform us that he began life as a merchant’s clerk in Antwerp, that he travelled in Poland, Denmark and other parts of northern Europe. After his travels, he became advisor and tutor of Prince Maurice of Nassau, who asked his advice on many occasions, and made him a public officer at first director of the so-called “waterstaet” (the government authority for public works), and later quartermaster-general. In Bruges there is a Simon Stevin Square which contains his statue by Eugen Simonis, which includes his inclined plane diagram. Land yacht (Zeilwagen) designed by Simon Stevin for Prince Maurice of Orange. His claims to fame are varied. His contemporaries were most struck by his invention of a so-called land yacht, a carriage with sails, of which a little model had been preserved in Scheveningen until 1802. The carriage itself had been lo… More: |

My wife and I walked to La Fontaine, to reach which we had to pass through the town by the narrow, ill-paved streets, and then to cross the swamp. La Fontaine is a fine spring of the purest water. It flows into a tank, which is surrounded by a wall, but when it leaves this confined space it spreads itself over the low ground between it and Alexandretta, and forms a marsh where frogs are continually croaking, and which is the cause of deadly fever. By the expenditure of a few thousand pounds this swamp might be drained, and the value of the land would repay the outlay. But decay and ruin seem everywhere to be the effect of Turkish misrule. Alexandretta might be made a first-rate harbour by building a mole as a protection against the only wind which is severely felt. Except Haifa, there is no other good placeof anchorage on the Syrian coast. Just outside the town, near the Coquette’s lawn- tennis ground, there is a camp where the camels arriving from Aleppo laden with goods generally halt. It was a curious sight, watching the ” ships of the desert” returning to their station in the |

Ready to Roll: A Celebration of the Classic American Travel Trailer $305.8 Americans in search of family oriented domestic travel, safe and inexpensive, are buying trailers and RVs in record numbers. At the same time-with fantasies of Lauren Bacall sipping an extra-dry Gibson against a gleaming metal doorway in Palm Springs and Lucy and Desi’s madcap Long, Long Trailer trip-they crave the vanished luxury and quirkiness of antique auto trailers. Those simpler, slower days of freedom and security are being recaptured in trailers from all eras, rescued and restored as living, road-ready Americana. Ready to Roll, with more than 300 color photographs, taps into this trend in gloriously illustrated and insightfully chronicled retro style. Here is the complete evolution of the trailer, from the utilitarian Covered Wagon to the aristocratic Airstream and Aerocar Land Yacht to the homemade Hammer Blows of the Depression. Here too are the people who drove these cherished chariots and increasingly lived in them in trailer parks, from the stereotypically seedy to the likes of Bing Crosby’s exclusive Blue Skies Trailer Village. The amazing camaraderie of groups like the Tin Can Tourists marks the trailer phenomenon as a major segment of American consciousness and history. Author Biography: Arrol Gellner is an architect, a syndicated columnist based with the San Francisco Chronicle, and an author of Red Tile Style and Storybook Style. Douglas Keister has taken photographs for nine previous Viking Studio books including Red Tile Style, Storybook Style, and America’s Painted Ladies. |

Romance Island $23.92 As The Aloha rode gently to her buoy among the crafts in the harbour, St. George longed to proclaim in the megaphone’s monstrous parody upon capital letters: “Cat-boats and house-boats and yawls, look here. You’re bound to observe that this is my steam yacht. I own her-do you see? She belongs to me, St. George, who never before owned so much as a piece of rope.” Instead-mindful, perhaps, that “a man should not communi-cate his own glorie”-he stepped sedately down to the trim green skiff and was rowed ashore by a boy who, for aught that either knew, might three months before have jostled him at some ill-favoured lunch counter. For in America, dreams of gold-not, alas, golden dreams-do prevalently come true; and of all the butterfly happenings in this pleasant land of larvae, few are so spectacular as the process by which, without warning, a man is converted from a toiler and bearer of loads to a taker of his bien. However, to none, one must believe, is the changeling such gazing-stock as to himself. |

Runabout Renovation: How to Find and Fix Up an Old Fiberglass Speedboat $16.95 For those who own a cherished but dilapidated fiberglass runabout, or for those who want a boat but are turned off by the high prices and often poor quality of today’s offerings, this book explains everything there is to know about turning a rundown runabout into a real showpiece for a fraction of the cost of a new model. Author Jim Anderson, a runabout renovator from Minnesota’s Land of Ten Thousand Lakes, leads readers through the whole renovation process. For those who think a project like this may be more than they can handle, renovating an old runabout is actually less complicated and expensive than adding on a deck or redoing a room–two of the most popular projects for home handymen. And Anderson’s sense of humor and gift for providing simple solutions make Runabout Renovation as fun to read as it is easy to understand. The backyards of North America house literally millions of rundown runabouts ripe for renovation. With Jim Anderson’s help, you can own a better boat than you can buy new, for a quarter of the price or less. And like a beautifully restored ’57 Chevy, it’ll have class.Low-cost alternatives for the powerboater on a budget.Although more people own boats ranging in length from 14 to 24 feet than all others combined, most books published about boat repair and restoration are directed at the big boat or yacht owner. Hence Runabout Renovation, a complete guide to finding and fixing up old fiberglass speedboats. You’ll learn how to: Choose and survey a boatMake cosmetic repairs and repaint your boatReplace thefloorReupholster and carpet the interiorBuild a new transomUpgrade electrical and mechanical systems. . . and much more. The Governor General for Canada West at the time suggested that the Club adopt the name “Canadian Yacht Club” to better express its importance beyond the local area, and the petition for a Royal Warrant was made in that name. In 1878, it received permission from the British Admiralty to use the Blue Ensign, defaced with a crown in the fly. In 1881, it moved from the increasingly industrial Toronto waterfront to the Toronto Islands after building a clubhouse on 10 acres (40,000 m) of land. Today, the RCYC is a sailing and social club with an emphasis on family participation, the development of junior sailors and a Corinthian attitude towards excellence in sailing. The Slave Ship Wanderer $16.87 Published in 1967, The Slave Ship Wanderer details the journey of the elegant yacht that was used to secretly land a cargo of 400 enslaved Africans off the coast of Jekyll Island, Georgia, in 1859. It was the last successful large-scale importation of slaves into the United States, and it was done in defiance of a federal law. The Wanderer’s crew had out-run ships of both the British and American Navies and the creators of the plot went on to evade federal marshals as they attempted to sell the slaves throughout the South.Tom Henderson Wells documents the story behind the prominent Georgian, Charles Lamar, who engineered the plot. He also explores the regional and national attention the story received and the failure to prosecute those involved. In tracing the story of the Wanderer, Wells provides insight into the heated political and social climate of the South on the verge of secession. |
